It was a big day for the Canadian team, their captain Stephanie (Barney) Nesbitt reached a milestone – playing in her 100th International game.
However, it was Chile who had the jump at the beginning of the game and they were rewarded for their quick start when they received the first penalty corner in the 11th minute. Camila CARAM put the Chileans on the scoreboard when her direct shot beat the Canadian keeper – Bea FRANCISCO, who was playing in her first International game.
The Chileans continued to put pressure on the Canadian defence and were awarded another penalty corner just 4 minutes later. However, Bea FRANCISCO made the save.
The Canadian’s, settled down and put together some nice passing sequences in the next 10 minutes of the game and got themselves on the scoreboard when Abi RAYE, drove the ball into the circle and passed it to Robyn PENDLETON, who one timed it off a deflection beating the Chilean goalkeeper, Beatriz WIRTH.
The teams finished the half tied at one.
7 minutes into the second half the Chileans scored their second goal of the evening on a nice reverse shot that went up and over a diving Bea FRANCISCO.
The Canadians almost equalized soon afterwards when Di ROEMER aerialed the ball down the field, to M. DICKINSON who collected, drove the baseline, took a shot and the rebound went to a wide open, diving S. NESBITT, whose shot went just up and over the Chilean’s net.
The perfect conclusion to S. NESBITT’S 100th game came at the 60th minute mark when K. BAKER passed inside the circle to Stephanie whose hard, low shot beat the Chilean keeper. Final score was 2-2.
The National team, its coaches and support staff would like to congratulate Stephanie on her amazing accomplishment of playing in her 100th International game. We would also like to congratulate Bea Francisco on her first international cap.
