The boys U16 final was a great match up between Ontario and the BC Blue squad. Ontario took a 1-0 lead into halftime and never looked back. They added to their lead with a second goal after the half and the game ended 2-0.The BRONZE medal was claimed by Alberta who defeated the BC White team 4-2. All the scoring in this game occurred in the first half with neither team able to convert on their offensive chances in the second half.
In the girls division the game needed a Penalty Shootout to determine a winner. The teams were deadlocked at the end of regulation time 1-1 and overtime could not produce the winning goal. In the Penalty Shootout, BC Blue proved to be the stronger team and came away the champions. BC out-scored Ontario 4-2 to take the GOLD and Ontario had to settle for SILVER.
BC White was scoreless against Alberta at halftime, but after the break BC carried the play and scored three times to take BRONZE.
“The U16 National tournament was a wonderful event, “says Sharon Creelman, FHC Technical Director. “Both final games were extremely close and well played. For a number of players this was their first experience at a national tournament and they performed extremely well. I was very encouraged by the calibre of play by the athletes and look forward to watching their development over the next 12 months.”
