Peru falls to Canadian men at Pan Am Indoors

August 11, 2010

The Canadian men’s national indoor team defeated Peru 8-2 Wednesday morning in their second match of the 2010 Pan American Indoor
Championship in Barquisimeto, Venezuela.

Both teams were looking to capitalize on victories in their opening matches.  Canada asserted its authority early by scoring two quick goals in the opening minutes of the half from Jonathan Roberts.  Roberts then scored once again for Canada to give them a 3-0 lead over Peru.

However, Peru continued to play strong and Canada had a hard time generating more attack.  While Canada’s Brandon Barber managed to score their fourth goal of the match, less than a minute later Peru scored their first goal.  Thus, the score was 4-1 at halftime.

Canada continued to assert their dominance over the match in the second half with another hat trick from Jonathan Roberts.  Sean Barretto scored Canada’s eighth and final goal of the match to make it an 8-2 final.

Canada will next play Argentina Thursday afternoon.

The Indoor Pan Am Championships serve as the continental qualifier to the 2011 Indoor World Cup.
