Southern Okanagan Secondary School in Oliver, B.C. recently held a ceremony to recognize the field hockey accomplishments of Field Hockey Canada alumna Lesley Magnus.
Lesley graduated from SOSS in June of 1995 after leading her school team to the Consolation Trophy at the AAA Provincial Tournament in the Fall of 1994. She went on to an outstanding career at the University of British Columbia – during her time at UBC (1995-2000) the T Birds won back to back CIS Championships in 1998 and 1999.
“In five short years, Lesley developed into one of the top field hockey players that Canada ever produced,” said UBC Coach Hash Kanjee. “This speaks to her talent, her athleticism, but more importantly, her character, her work ethic and her never say die competitiveness.”
In 2000 Lesley was selected to the Women’s National Team and played for Canada until retiring in 2005. She earned 55 Caps during her career.
Lesley has now returned to Oliver and is coaching the SOSS Senior Field Hockey Team. She led her team to the Bronze Medal at the AA Provincial Tournament in November 2012.
SOSS presented Lesley with a recognition board on Feb. 1 which will be mounted on the wall of the new gymnasium. Congratulations Lesley!
