Technical Officials Training a Success

December 18, 2013 | Field Hockey Canada | fieldhockey.ca

In late November 2013, the Pan American Hockey Federation (PAHF), Field Hockey Canada and Field Hockey Ontario partnered to offer an educational weekend in Toronto – all in pursuit of increasing the knowledge and capacity of technical officials in Canada and beyond.

Fourteen participants – with a range of field hockey experience, and from age 17 to 50+ – attended the one-day Field Hockey Canada introductory course, aimed at anyone interested in becoming a technical official. The PAHF course – designed for those people who previously completed the FHC Technical Officials Course and have been an active technical official in the last two years – drew an additional nine participants, all of whom had acted as tournament directors, technical officials and/or judges at various national and provincial events in Canada.

The two groups then combined to wrap up the weekend with the Indoor Module – the first to be offered in Canada – and a Tournament Management System (TMS) training session.

Thank you to instructors Derek Sandison, Willard Harris and Hari Kant for sharing their experience and knowledge with the group.

Field Hockey Canada hopes to host more learning opportunities of this calibre in the near future, and thanks PAHF and Field Hockey Ontario for their support in making the weekend a success.
