U18 Women’s Nationals – Day 1 Recap

August 8, 2014 | Field Hockey Canada | fieldhockey.ca

The U18 women had a great start today here in sunny Calgary. Ontario opened the day with a strong showing at a 7-0 win over Alberta. BC Yellow and Manitoba took the pitch next, putting forth a strong effort on both sides but Yellow came away with it at 8-0. PEI and BC Blue rounded out the morning with a BC Blue victory. Ontario returned to the field at 3:30 MDT versus BC White in a very nice match up, but Ontario remained undefeated on the day with a 2-0 win. At 5:30 we had a BC battle – Blue versus Yellow. It was a great showing by both but Blue remained victorious on the day, as well. After the sun went down, both PEI and Manitoba returned to the field for the last match of the day.  PEI finished with a 2-0 win over Manitoba and went 1-1 on the day.

Alberta returns to the pitch first thing tomorrow morning at 8:45 am MDT versus BC White. BC Blue and Manitoba face off at 10:30, then PEI versus BC Yellow starts at 12:15 pm MDT. Quarterfinals will begin tomorrow afternoon and evening at 4:15 pm and 6:15 pm MDT at the same venue the University of Calgary Hawkings Field.
