Training Update from Chile
Thursday, March 31st, 2011
The Women’s National field hockey team successfully landed in Santiago, Chile yesterday after a long flight down via Toronto. In Toronto, the team met up with team manager, Katie Henhawk, a previous Junior National Field Hockey team member and current Assistant Director of Athletics at Appleby College in Ontario. Travelling alongside the team as well, is Dr. Sean Richardson, a former elite rower, who will be here to help the team in mental training and preparation. Re-joining the team again is our Athletic Therapist, Noreen Ortilla, who has been with the team before in Ireland and in Surrey at the Canada-India series.
With a great staff on board and a group of eager athletes, the team was in full gear right after landing in Chile. Yesterday, the team hit the pitch for a run/workout session with a bit of a stick and ball. This will be the first travelling tour for Junior national team member Sara McManus and only the second for Kelowna, BC natives, Natalie Sourisseau and Danielle Hennig, as well as goal keeper Kaitlyn Williams of White Rock, BC. Jess Walkey, returning from an ACL tear, also makes her debut with the team since surgery. The team is preparing hard in the heat, simulating temperatures for the Pan American games and are looking forward to a competitive 5-game test series against Chile.
Canada steps on the pitch for their first match on Saturday, April 2nd, so stay tuned for more written and video updates!!
