Last weekend the West Vancouver Millionaires won promotion back to the Vancouver Premier League with convincing 4-3 and 3-1 wins over the Surrey Lions. The two day promotion battle took place at Rutledge Field on the Saturday and away at Tamanawis on the Sunday.
As the games were based on the aggregate scoring system West Van knew they had a job to do on day 1 – this was achieved through hard grit and determination as Surrey put up a tough fight and really brought all they had. This forced West Van to play a different game to what they are used to and had to combine patience with high paced attacking. After a gritty 4-3 win, West Van went into Sunday with the 1-0 advantage. On the Sunday, West Van did not hold back – Wettlaufer governing from the middle and allowing the boys to alter their strategy as and when required… Surrey again fought hard but it was West Van who came away with the spoils after two early goals. The second half was possession based for West Van who held on to secure the Premier League promotion place. Surrey put up a great fight and massive respect goes out to their team for their valiant efforts.
