The Women’s National Team defeated Trinidad & Tobago 4 – 0 in their second to last match of the 2012 FIH World League Round 1 in Port of Spain. With this victory, Canada is guaranteed a top two finish and will advance to the FIH World League Round 2 in 2013!
“Today, we met one of our primary goals – to qualify for Round 2,” says Head Coach Kimo Linders. “We played a strong game scoring a number of beautiful goals against our strongest opponent so far.”
The game against Trinidad & Tobago marked a special occasion as Marian Dickinson (7) earned her 50th cap. She has scored five goals in the tournament, including earning her first international goal for Canada. The Acting High Commissioner to Canada in Trinidad & Tobago Mr. Cyril Joseph and his Assistant Bernard Leury watched the game alongside family and other supporters as Team Canada earned another victory.
Team Canada’s goals were scored by : Thea Culley (14’), Poonam Sandhu (31’), Brienne Stairs (34’), Caashia Karringten (45’).
The team will have a rest day before playing Uruguay on Saturday. Canada and Uruguay will battle for first place in their final match of the tournament. .
