USA Women’s National Team Defeat Canada in Game One

January 20, 2011

The Canadian Women’s National Field Hockey Team lost to Team USA 5-0 in Chula Vista, California, yesterday in their first game of a four match Test Series. This was the Canadian’s first match in an international competition since October at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi, India.

The first goal of the match was scored seventeen minutes into the first half by Paige Selenski on a penalty corner. Less than ten minutes following, Michelle Kasold put away her first goal of the game, giving USA a 2-0 advantage. Caroline Nichols scored, again on a penalty corner with less than one minute remaining, to make the score 3-0 going into halftime.

Rachel Dawson started off the second half with a reverse stick shot for a goal and Michelle Kasold scored her second goal of the game and finalized the score at 5-0 for Team USA.

Canada has brought to San Diego six new players to add to the twelve who competed at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi, India. This is a great learning experience for first time international match players like Hannah Haughn who played exceptionally well in her debut for Canada. The Canadians have a day off to regroup and prepare before playing thier next match on January 21 at 1pm PST. For more information on the Canada-USA Test Series, please click on the link below.
