Barker and Poland share first caps

A special moment took place on Tuesday night as long-time hockey friends Crystal Poland and Kaela Barker shared their first caps playing against India this week in Surrey, BC.
Poland, of Crofton, BC, started playing field hockey in grade 8 and her athleticism and raw talent did not go unnoticed. In her grade 10 years she was apart of the AAA provincial championship team at Cowichan Secondary school and from then on knew she would be pursuing field hockey further…
India edges Canada in Game 1 from Surrey

SURREY – The Canadian women’s national field hockey team were edged 3-2 by India Tuesday evening in the first of their four-match test series.
India opened the scoring in the 15th minute on a penalty corner goal from Indian captain Surinder Kaur.
Canadian goalkeeper Azelia Liu made a great save on another Indian chance in the 19th minute.
Canada came out strong in the second half with a fantastic scoring
chance when Crystal Poland took the ball from the half and made a great pass
to Stephanie Nesbitt whose reverse stick shot was saved by the Indian goalie…

Canada-India Cup starts tonight in Surrey

The 2010 Canada-India Cup kicks off tonight at 7:00pm in Surrey, British Columbia. The Canadian women’s national team look to gain some valuable experience ahead of this fall’s Commonwealth Games by taking on the number-13 ranked Indians in a four game series.
Canada is currently ranked 19th in the world.
“This is an outstanding opportunity for us,” says Canadian head coach Louis Mendonca. The calibre of competition will be excellent and this serves as great preparation for the Commonwealth Games…

Starting at the 2009 Annual General Meeting, the Field Hockey Canada (FHC) Board of Directors and Senior leadership decided to take full stock of the current status of Field Hockey in Canada- and more importantly what was possible to achieve for 2016 and beyond. Canada-India Cup schedule changed

Due to the late arrival of the National Women’s Indian Team to British Columbia the organizers of the 2010 Canada-India Cup have announced a change to the match schedule.
The games previously scheduled on June 12th and 13th at the University of British Columbia have been cancelled. Games planned for June 15th, 17th, and 19th in Surrey will remain as scheduled.
A fourth and final game will then be played at UBC on Sunday, June 20th at 4:00pm…
