This past weekend, the Superleague finished after several weeks of exciting competitions.  These events would not be possible without the leadership and contribution of many people who are passionate about developing field hockey at all levels.  We would like to acknowledge and say a BIG thank you to the following people who made this event possible:

The  final weekend of the 2010 AK Pro Superleague kicked off on Friday with the Red team taking a 2-0 lead over team Pink for third place. From the opening whistle the Red team looked to take charge and generate a lot of attack. Most of the attack was credited to some good midfield possession by Erin Mason who was able to thread the ball to forwards Megan Scraper and Emily Neill on numerous occasions. Lucy Shaw and Laura Dowling were strong on defence for Red, with Dowling tossing some brilliant aerials up the field…

Field Hockey Canada has announced an identification camp will be held in Vancouver from August 10 – 15 for under-18 female athletes.

Athletes will be invited to attend based on performance at the 2010 Senior National Championships (June 30th – July 4th Victoria, British Columbia), 2010 U18 Canada Cup (July 15th – 18th Calgary, Alberta) and 2010 U16 National Championships (July 21st – 25th Mississauga, Ontario),

Field Hockey Canada is committed to supporting the Women’s program to consistently qualify for major competitions such as the Olympic Games and the World Cup…

FHC announces 2010 Women’s Carding

Field Hockey Canada and head coach Louis Mendonca are pleased to announce the 2010 women’s national squad athletes who will receive financial support under the Athlete Assistance Program.  These carded athletes were nominated by FHC to receive support to offset some of their training and competition expenses.  The 2010 carding cycle runs from May 1st, 2010 to December 31, 2010.  The shorter duration is meant to re-align the cycle with the calendar year as was the case prior to its deviation in 2008…

In the highly anticipated semi-final match up, the pink and navy teams came out strong right from the opening whistle. Team pink boasted a strong backfield line-up while the Navy team seemed to find ways to dominate coming down the outside channels. Solid defense in both ends was evident since both teams were only able to earn a single penalty corner each in the first half. Game 3: PINK vs BABY BLUE (2-1)

Mother nature was working against both teams Friday night in the rain as Nick Sandhu’s Pink team faced off with the Baby blue team, led by national team coach, Louis Mendonca. Good distribution out of the backfield by Christine De Pape and Amanda Bird allowed the baby blue team to own most of the possession in the first half. Throughout the half, blue continued to dominate the game though both goal keepers in opposite ends, Kaitlyn Williams and Bea Francisco, were hardly tested…

Start date of U16 Nationals moved back

Due to the limited field the first matches of the 2010 FHC U16 National Championship tournaments will be played the morning of Wednesday, July 21st.  Teams are expected to arrive by Tuesday, July 20th at the latest.  Practices times will be available on Tuesday for teams.  The final match will be played at 12:00 (noon) on Sunday, July 25th, followed immediately by a brief closing ceremony.
