Exciting year ahead across all Canadian field hockey programs

Field Hockey Canada is thrilled to launch the 2026 competition calendar that outlines the first look ahead at our international and domestic events.

The year starts right off the hop, as our Women’s National Team is in South Africa for the month of January for a training tour, featuring five officially capped matches against the South African National Team. Following that, both senior national teams will travel to Chile from March 1-8, for the FIH World Cup Qualifiers.

From this event, there are multiple avenues for qualification for the 2026 FIH Hockey World Cup in Belgium & Netherlands. The two teams that make the finals will automatically qualify as will the winner of the bronze medal. After that, the highest world ranked 4th place team (between the two qualifying events) after the final day of the qualifiers, will also qualify for the World Cup. Roster and more details will be released in February, 2026.

The CANAM Indoor Series featured six Canadian sides last year, including men’s and women’s junior, senior and masters’ teams. Having been the hosts last year, it’s now Canada’s turn to travel, with teams venturing south to New Jersey for the annual rivalry indoor series with the United States. The indoor hockey continues in March as the Indoor Masters World Cup is taking place in Nottingham, UK.

It’s another packed spring for our international youth programming as Field Hockey Canada is sending four youth women’s and one men’s tour to Europe. Two U18 girls’ teams will travel at the end of March to Wales and Czechia then a U16 team and U18 team will go to Poznan, Poland at the end of April. The boys meanwhile head to Germany to take part in a coveted international tournament in Frankfurt. This, coupled with the new NextGen camp-based national training program demonstrates a strong growth and development in youth hockey, building competitive depth in the pipeline to the U21 national team and senior-level hockey. More stories outlining the NextGen pathway and community programming will be shared during January and February.

Speaking of the Junior (U21) National Teams, after a busy year, they are right back at it, heading to Santiago, Chile for the 2026 PAHF Junior Pan American Championships in April. Fresh off a Junior Pan American Games and Junior World Cup in 2025, there is no shortage of international opportunities for our Canadian juniors. Rosters and match schedules will be released at the beginning of March. Expect to see many new faces as the new 2-year junior cycle begins and many of our more experienced juniors age out, making way for the next wave of upcoming boys and girls talent.

From there, we skip forward to the summer months where Field Hockey Canada is thrilled to be hosting the U18 Nationals in Surrey, BC, at Tamanawis Field and the U16 Nationals in Calgary at the University of Calgary Hawkings Field. Nationals is a yearly reminder of our exciting youth domestic programming and always a competitive highlight for provinces across the country to challenge one another, showcasing the best up and coming talent in each province. Huge thanks to our members at Field Hockey BC and Field Hockey Alberta who are supporting Field Hockey Canada in the organization of these domestic national championships.

August 15-30, 2026 is the big dance: the FIH World Cup in Belgium and Netherlands. The Men’s team last attended the World Cup in 2018 while the Women’s Team was in Spain last time around in 2022. Both teams will be battling through the March qualifiers with goals of punching their tickets to this major international milestone.

As the summer wraps up and turns to fall, Field Hockey Canada is excited to announce another USPORTS Championships is on the way. The host will be announced in the summer, but after Ontario (OUA Conference) and PEI (Atlantic Canada) hosted the last two respectively, this year’s edition will be held in Western Canada. This tournament has become a premier showcase of Canada’s university hockey final-4 action, and this year looks just as exciting!

As the Field Hockey Team of Teams across the country continues to grow, we are excited for the year ahead. Stay tuned for more updates, events coverage, and more resources as the year goes along. Visit the competition calendar here and view below.
