By defeating USA and claiming Pan American bronze, the Women’s National Team qualified for the 2022 World Cup. Today, the groups were announced via the FIH’s live draw. For Canadians, it took place in the middle of the night or early morning, but the Wolf Pack was up and watching the drama unfold.
It was an early-morning video call for the WNT players as they watched the live-draw happen. Canada will play Argentina, Spain and Korea.
Canada drew the familiar foe of Argentina alongside Korea and one of the host-nations, Spain. The tournament will take place July 1-17, 2022 and Canada will play their group stage matches in Terrassa, Spain.
Natalie Sourisseau, who wore the captain’s band in Santiago at the Pan American Cup last month, said the team is looking forward to the competition and expects the Wolf Pack to be ready for the challenge.
“We’re looking forward to playing against teams we don’t play that often and one, that’s a Pan American rival, she said. “More than anything, we’re looking forward to playing in the tournament, playing in the former Olympic stadium; we’re excited to see what a great, exciting event this is going to be.”
The Canadian Women’s National Team last qualified in 1994. Pre-tournament schedule, rosters and more will be available in the coming weeks.
