The opening day of the 4 Nation Classic was full of world-class field hockey and a visit by the Minister of State (Sport), the Hon. Bal Gosal. The first match of the tournament was between Canada A Women and Chile, which ended in a 4 – 2 victory for Chile. The 4 Nation Classic began yesterday as Canada’s development team, Canada A, played Chile at 2:00pm for the first match. Despite the gloomy forecasts, the rainy weather held off for what would be a perfect afternoon for field hockey.
The 4 Nation Classic was very pleased to host the Hon. Bal Gosal, Minister of State (Sport), on Friday, July 15. He had the opportunity to meet Team Canada and watch the women’s match between Canada and Trinidad & Tobago. The Canadian Women opened the 4 Nation Classic competition in Vancouver with a decisive win over Trinidad & Tobago, a team they will face in pool play at the upcoming Pan American Games in Guadalajara.
Canada opened their triple confrontation with Chile and Trinidad & Tobago, in Vancouver, with a hard fought win over a Trinidadian team that is always a tough opponent, with talented young players and the experienced stewardship of the ever green Kwan BROWNE.

BC Blue Sweeps Senior Nationals Gold

It was a BC Blue day today as both the Men’s and Women’s BC Blue teams earned bragging rights at the 2011 Senior National tournament. Earlier in the day, the Ontario Red women defeated the BC White women for the bronze. That 2-1 win came off a series of shots and a bit of chaos in front of the BC White net but nonetheless, sealed the deal in the first over-time. The Bronze medal match for the men also went to over-time with the Canadian Junior boys defeating the BC White men’s team 1-0…

The early game went to Ontario men who played the Canadian Junior Boys and earned 3 points to put them first in their pool with 12 points. Ontario won 5-3 but it was the Canadian Juniors who were on the board first, in the 2nd minute. A field goal from Stephen Bissett put the Juniors up 1-0 but in the 7th minute Wayne Fernandes converted on a penalty corner to start the ball rolling for Ontario. Nathan Froese and Nick Hignell each pocketed a goal for Ontario but Matthew Sarmento and David Loy each managed to score for the juniors to bring the game to 3-3…
