More than five years have passed since Canada has sent a Women’s team to the World Cup Qualifier for Indoor Field Hockey. That qualifier took place in 2005 on home soil in Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario where both the men’s and women’s teams captured the gold medal and a chance to represent Canada at the World Cup in Vienna, Austria in 2007. Canada’s U-17 field hockey team found a silver lining at the Pan Am Youth Championship in Montevideo, Uruguay earlier this year (March 13-21). A sterling performance by the young nationals ranked fourth entering the eight team tournament.

Red defeats Pink for Superleague Bronze

The final weekend of the 2010 AK Pro Superleague kicked off on Friday with the Red team taking a 2-0 lead over team Pink for third place. From the opening whistle the Red team looked to take charge and generate a lot of attack. Most of the attack was credited to some good midfield possession by Erin Mason who was able to thread the ball to forwards Megan Scraper and Emily Neill on numerous occasions. Lucy Shaw and Laura Dowling were strong on defence for Red, with Dowling tossing some brilliant aerials up the field…
U18 Women’s identification camp to be held in August

Field Hockey Canada has announced an identification camp will be held in Vancouver from August 10 – 15 for under-18 female athletes.
Athletes will be invited to attend based on performance at the 2010 Senior National Championships (June 30th – July 4th Victoria, British Columbia), 2010 U18 Canada Cup (July 15th – 18th Calgary, Alberta) and 2010 U16 National Championships (July 21st – 25th Mississauga, Ontario),

FHC announces 2010 Women’s Carding

Field Hockey Canada and head coach Louis Mendonca are pleased to announce the 2010 women’s national squad athletes who will receive financial support under the Athlete Assistance Program. These carded athletes were nominated by FHC to receive support to offset some of their training and competition expenses. The 2010 carding cycle runs from May 1st, 2010 to December 31, 2010. The shorter duration is meant to re-align the cycle with the calendar year as was the case prior to its deviation in 2008…
