Head Coach Announced for Jr. Men’s National Team

Field Hockey Canada is pleased to announce that Aaron Guest has been appointed as the Head Coach of the Men’s Junior National Program.

Aaron has a long history as a Club and University player in Australia, followed by a move to B.C. where he played on the B.C. Provincial team, and the Vancouver Hawks Hockey Club. He has a long list of coaching experience including: specialty coach for several Club Teams in Australia (1997-2003), the Alberta, Women’s’ U18 and Senior Team at the National Championships, and assistant for the Junior Men’s and Senior team for targeted training camps…

The FIH can announce the All Star teams for 2010, which feature a total of 36 players and four coaches who have lit up the hockey world over the past 12 months with their achievements.

The impressive squads feature a number of legendary icons who have been named on the All Stars lists on many previous occasions, such as five time nominees Luciana Aymar (ARG), Jamie Dwyer (AUS) and Teun de Nooijer (NED). Between them, these three players have also collected a staggering 14 FIH Player of the Year titles over the past decade…

Indoor World Cup Match Schedule Released

Match Schedule released for FIH Indoor World Cup 2011

The International Hockey Federation (FIH) is pleased to release the match schedule for the FIH Indoor World Cup. The double event – which takes place once every four years – will be played in the Polish city of Poznan from the 8th to the 13th February 2011.

A total of 76 matches will take place over an intense six day period, with two pitches in operation simultaneously. Day 1 (Tuesday, February 8th) will feature 12 contests, with six men’s and six women’s matches taking to the field…

It is a major International Tournament for Clubs, Regional, Provincial (State) and National Teams.

The International Hockey Federation (FIH) can confirm the line-ups for the men’s and women’s Champions Trophy and Challenge tournaments that will take place at various locations around the world in 2011.

The Men’s FIH Champions Trophy features outright qualifiers Australia, England, Germany, The Netherlands, Spain and host nation India, with two additional teams being invited to take part in the exciting new eight-team event that will take place on dates to be confirmed in November/December 2011…

Every year several athletes are able to receive financial assistance due to a non-profit organization known as the Canadian Athletes Now Fund and this year five members of the women’s national team were chosen to each receive $6000. As individuals this money helps cover costs of team levies, travel, food and rent. Every little penny helps the team especially since this year, each athlete donated $2000 towards the team program, which gave the coach $10, 000 to plan some new tours…

Men’s Indoor Team Returns Home From Russia Tournament

The Canadian Men’s Indoor team has returned home after participating in the Moscow Nights Indoor Field Hockey Tournament in Moscow, Russia. The tournament was a prelude to the FIH Indoor World Cup to be held in Poznan, Poland on February 8th – 13th, 2011.

In the tournament, the Canadian team was placed in Pool B that saw countries Russia, Sweden, Iran, and Belarus also competing for the first place title…

Game for the Cure keeps on giving

Inspired by the Canadian women’s national team’s Game for the Cure in September 2009, Nicola McIlrick founded the “Game for the Cure: Tri-Cities” to continue field hockey’s support for cancer research in British Columbia.

The event, which took place in 2009 and 2010, pits a high school All-Star team against the local Division 1 & 2 Women’s Team.  Local high school coaches nominate three players from their team as All-Stars, and the two teams battle it out…
