Men’s Jr. Team USA Test Series Blog: 5
November 15, 2010
We woke up at 7:45 for our first pre-game morning jog.
Preparing for our first match against the USA was totally necessary as none of us wanted to start off the series with a loss. We had our Holiday Inn’s signature breakfast, complete with bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, and the key to our success, those perfect cinnamon rolls. Continuing with our pre-game preparation, Coach Aaron presented our game plan complete with chalk board diagrams and video clips – which I found very informative…

Canada – 2 USA – 2
The Canadian athletes were unsettled with the intensity the USA team brought to the second match. Canada continued on with the quick rotation up front due to the match start time (1:30 pm) and the hot dry weather conditions. Canada’s defence was lead by the goalie Kevin Pereira who was virtually untested in the 1st match and stopped every attempt made by the USA in the first half…

Thursday began with a 7:00 am breakfast consisting of the now perfunctory bacon, toast, yogurt, waffles and muffins and of whose quality we seem to have varying opinions.
At 7:30 am we headed to the field in our convoy of vans, and as usual Big Alv was far ahead of the others on the way.
We worked on our half-court press and our five-man defence, and we were pleased with our performance. Once again at the end of the practice our adept manager was noted yelling, "C’mon boys, three more balls," in his colossal voice…

The coaches had decided the previous night to relax today’s training schedule from two practices to one, as you can imagine the team was extremely supportive of this decision. After a much appreciated sleep-in the team went down to breakfast well rested and pumped at the prospect of the lighter schedule ahead of them. As if that wasn’t enough, they were delightfully surprised by the presence of sausages at the breakfast buffet…

Canada – 2 USA – 0
The Canadian athletes settled right into the game plan with confidences and a high work rate. Canada introduced quick continuous rotation up front due to the 1:30 pm start and hot dry condition. This paid dividends with a field goal at the 9 th minute by # 3 – Josh Brown. Most of the first half the USA sustained ball possession outside the Canadian half court zone earning 3 penalty corners…
Men’s Jr. Team USA Test Series – 2
November 13, 2010
The day started off bright and early with breakfast at 7am and then practice at 8. After reflecting on our first breakfast, several of us agreed that the 5 hours of sleep was probably the only reason the omelets tasted all right, they could have been much better that’s for sure. Everyone was pretty tired from travelling the day before and it didn’t help that we got to the hotel at 1am. Practice was interesting to say the least, because as you can imagine, we were all very tired and it made for a very tough practice…

Most of us are coming off an intense 5 day Senior National Carding Camp. Our first day on the 2010 California Tour was also the last day of the camp. Those of us at the camp left Wright Field at UBC and headed straight to Vancouver International Airport where we had to meet at 4:00 pm sharp. We got a quick meal and checked through customs for our flight to Los Angeles which departed around 6:40 pm.
The flight was nice, short and uneventful…
