Excitement is building in the Canadian field hockey community as the Junior Women’s National Team prepares to take on the world’s best at the FIH Women’s Hockey Junior World Cup in Santiago, Chile. The tournament, kicking off on December 29, promises intense competition and showcases the incredible talent of Field Hockey Canada’s rising stars.
Canada earned its ticket to the Junior World Cup by securing a top-four finish at the 2023 Junior Pan American Championships in Barbados last spring. This marks the second consecutive qualification for the Junior Women’s National Team, following their campaign at the 2021 Junior World Cup in South Africa.

In Santiago, Canada finds itself in a challenging pool alongside India, Belgium, and Germany. The action begins for Canada with an eagerly anticipated clash against India on the opening day, setting the tone for their tournament journey. The team has been in Chile for a week. playing prep-matches and training as a team. For a team that is spread out during most of the year, these preparation days are vitally important. According to head coach, Jenn Beagan, the team is fresh and ready to compete on day one.
“The group we have here is motivated to compete. We have a roster that is highly versatile which gives us the opportunity to work with a variety of structures and play a dynamic style of hockey,” Beagan said. “This team will bring a relentless effort to execute our principles and we will remain focused on our continual growth and learning from every opportunity to play.”
The Canadian roster is a true representation of the nation’s diverse field hockey talent, featuring players from four Canadian universities and nine American colleges. With eight players returning from their Junior Pan American campaign, the team boasts a blend of experience and fresh energy.
For many athletes on the squad, the Junior World Cup marks their first major international tournament, providing a golden opportunity to showcase their skills on the global stage and learn the pace and speed of the international game.
