After a two and a half hour snow delay, action on Hawkings Field heated up quickly on Friday morning as the UBC Thunderbirds’ offence powered its way to a 4-2 victory over the tournament host Calgary Dinos in the first match of day two at the CIS – FHC women’s field hockey championship.
Dru Marshall, ’82 MSc, ’89 PhD, the head coach of the U of A Pandas Field Hockey team for 21 years, is a highly respected leader in university sport, coaching education and administration.
“I will definitely be scouting for the Women’s Junior National Squad,” says Head Coach Peter Milkovich.
Other CIS major award winners were Toronto’s Amanda Woodcroft, who captured the Joyce Slipp award as rookie of the year; Calgary’s Lindsay Koch, who received the Gail Wilson Outstanding Contributor award; as well as Denise Pelletier, who referees in the OUA conference and was named umpire of the year.
