All Eligible Players Encouraged to Fill Out Expression of Interest Form
Field Hockey Canada is hosting a Men’s National Team carding camp on November 20-24, 2023. The event will take place in the Metro Vancouver area. It will be centred around identifying the Men’s National Squad for the upcoming season, including those fitting the criteria and eligible for nomination for the upcoming cycle of Sport Canada Athlete Assistance Program (AAP) support.
All eligible athletes that would like to be nominated to receive AAP support need to be present at this carding camp or apply for an exception (due to injury, illness or other legitimate circumstance) granted by the High Performance Director.
Please only fill out the Expression of Interest form below if you are both a Canadian citizen (holding a Canadian passport) and could contribute to the Men’s National Team performance at the highest level. This is not a development camp. The camp is by invitation only – the expression of interest form only indicates your availability.
Field Hockey Canada’s Men’s Head Coach, Patrick Tshutshani and Men’s Assistant Coach, Geoff Matthews will be running the carding camp along with our high-performance staff.
There is no cost to attend the camp. However, please note that all attending athletes will need to cover their own costs to get to and from the camp, including accommodation/meals and any travel expenses.

ABOUT CARDING:
The Government of Canada’s AAP is one of the funding streams Field Hockey Canada has a national sport organization can access to support its programs and athletes.
The AAP is a sport funding program that contributes to the pursuit of excellence. AAP support seeks to relieve some of the financial pressures associated with preparing for and participating in international sport. It assists high-performance Canadian athletes to combine their sport and academic or working careers while training intensively in pursuit of world-class performances, enabling their participation in year-round training and competition touring. Field Hockey Canada is required to govern these funds and report to Sport Canada on the application of the funds. FHC currently receives a total of $381,240 athlete assistance for its men’s program. This is the equivalent of 18 Senior cards. FHC also can split cards to enable a greater number of athletes to benefit from this support as guided by the HP strategy. Athletes identified by FHC and nominated for AAP support (known as ‘carding’) receive funding directly. Athletes nominated to receive AAP support also benefit from tuition and deferred tuition support.
As a reminder, athletes may be part of the senior squad (MNT) but not be nominated for AAP ‘carding’.
Regardless of AAP status, identified athletes within our MNT can receive other benefits from the sport system. These include eligibility for additional support to services including, gym access and Game Plan education from system partners such as the sports institute network (CSI) and the Olympic Committee (COC).
The AAP carding cycle for our men’s program runs from January 1st through to December 31st.
