Every sport has their legends; those that inspire and make lasting contributions.  Field Hockey in Canada is no exception.  As a team sport, every player contributes to the overall accomplishments and direction of the team.  However, very few make lasting impressions and hold records that stand for years, let alone a decade.  Paul “Bubli” Chohan is one of these players. 

When Bubli retired from international play in 1998, he did so after 24 years with the Senior National Team, more than any other Canadian player to date, and had accumulated an impressive 317 international caps, again more than any other Canadian player…

FIH Announces dates for upcoming events

CIS field hockey championship MVP Kaelan Watson was named the 2011 T-Holders female athletes of the year during the University of Toronto’s annual athletic banquet awards ceremony on Friday, April 8 at Chestnut Residence.

In her third year of eligibility, Watson anchored the Varsity Blues field hockey team to its second CIS championship in the last four seasons. Third on the team in scoring during the regular season, Watson led the Blues to a second-place regular season finish and a conference silver medal…

Even thought the 2012 Olympics are over a year away, the ticketing process has begun.  The London 2012 Olympic Games run from July 27 to August 12, 2012 and will feature approximately 10,500 athletes competing across 26 different and exciting sports both in and around the city of London.

MEN’S UK TOUR – DAY 1 REPORT

With everyone having arrived on time and in good form, the Canadian based contingent boarded an overnight flight to London, and after an uneventful flight all arrived safely with both Philip Wright and Matt Guest arriving from France and Australia, respectively, exactly as scripted. The only casualty was Philip Wright’s Stick Bag not arriving. However, after a vigorous number of telephones the bag was located and arrived late this evening.

The players were clearly very delighted with arriving in clear blue skies and 19 above temperatures…

A busy year lies ahead for Canada’s men as they are getting set to defend their Pan Am Gold from ’07 and their number #1 ranking in the Americas. A gold medal provides direct entry to the 2012 Olympics for the world’s number 10 ranked Canada. The task won’t be easy with world number 11 Argentina as Canada’s main opposition and traditional rival. Since 1983, Canada and Argentina have contended each of the previous 7 finals with Canada taking home 4 gold medals…

Chile takes Game 5 with 1-0 win over Canada

Chile defeated Canada 1-0 in the final match of the 5-test series in Santiago, Chile. The rain held out for the final game at the Prince of Wales Country Club and although Canada started out very strong in the first 10 minutes of the game, it was Chile who managed to capitalize early and tie up the series. Each team finshed with two wins and a tie after 5 games. The Canadians seemed to put the pressure on themselves and were unable to capitalize in the attacking 25. Down a starting forward, the team lacked Kingston, ON native, Kate Gillis, who was unable to play after showing minor concussions symptoms from being hit with at stick on a follow through in the fourth game…
