FISU Cancels 2010 World University Field Hockey Championship

The International University Sports Federation (FISU) officially cancelled the 2010 World University Field Hockey Championship on Tuesday citing low registration numbers. The event was scheduled to take place August 28 to September 4, 2010 in Edinburgh, UK.

Anna Kozniuk named Best Young Player in San Diego

The International Hockey Federation (FIH) has named 17-year old Anna Kozniuk of North Vancouver the Best Young Player of the AtaHolding World Cup Qualifier. The Canadian national team finished fourth in the six-team tournament which took place in San Diego March 26 – April 3. For her hard work Anna was presented with an iPod.
Canada finishes fourth in San Diego after loss to Belgium

The match to decide the third and fourth place classifications on the last day of the ATAHolding Qualifier was between Belgium and Canada, respectively. Belgium applied early attacking pressure, but Canada’s back-field held firm.
Much of the first half of play was a hard fought battle for possession, with Belgium seeming to control the flow of the match. As a result, Belgium had slightly more chances to score within their attacking third, while Canada struggled to break into their attacking third…
Host United States defeats Canada at Qualifier

Host USA played Canada on the last match of day five of the ATAHolding Qualifier. The match started with the USA controlling the match flow; and on their offensive end of the pitch. The USA’s Rachel Dawson scored first; off a penalty corner in the 14th minute of play.
The USA continued to hold possession. Canada had one of their best scoring opportunities around the 25th minute, but Katherine Gillis’ shot went just past the goal…
