Canada kicks off a busy October with 4 day identification camp

Canada will play 11 test matches over 23 days from October 9th to November 1st in three different venues on Canada’s West coast.  The first seven of these matches are against India in the highly anticipated 7 Test Super Series to be played in Victoria and Surrey, British Columbia.  This will be followed by four matches versus the United States at Wright Field on the University of British Columbia campus.

While a number of Senior Team players are still active in European League play and will not return until the start of the 7 Test Super Series with India, 40 players will be invited to attend a camp from October 1st – 4th from Wright Field in Vancouver.  A key objective is to identify the initial group of talent for the next Junior World Cup.  In addition, a Futures group will be formalized to develop the player pool, while the Senior Team begins to strictly focus on Canada’s performance at the 2010 World Cup. 

Canada’s coaching staff will announce their new World Cup Squad after the 11 tests, with the current squad of 32 players likely reduced to a group of 24 players. Head Coach Alan Brahmst has suggested that he intends to utilize about 25 different players during the 11 tests in order to provide an opportunity for the best talent from the Futures group to demonstrate their abilities in front of a home crowd and to compete for a spot on the World Cup Squad.
