Canadian men hold off USA for 5-4 win

The Canadian men’s national field hockey team defeated the United States for the second time within 24hrs with a 5-4 victory Sunday morning in California.

Canada took to the field vs. USA less than 19 hours after their previous match with the Americans. They were met at the field with superb playing conditions; clear skies, a slight breeze, and a well watered turf.

Canada defeats host USA in Chula Vista

The Canadian men’s national team defeated the United States 2-1 Saturday afternoon in their fifth match of their tour in San Diego.  Connor Meakin and Devohn Teixeria scored for Canada.

The game was pushed back for three and a half hours due to torrential rainfall.  A volunteer grounds crew spent over an hour using squeegees to remove the gallons of water that sat atop a slow draining field.  The field remained water logged – but the game was given the thumbs up to go ahead…

Canada Falls to Dutch Club for Second day in a Row

The Canadian men’s national team played their fourth match of their San Diego tour Wednesday afternoon falling 5-2 to Dutch club Bloemendaal HC.  It was the two teams’ second match in as many days.

Both teams started off cautiously.  Bloemendaal’s crisp passing was able to spread the Canadian forward and midfield line and they were able to find gaps to attack.  The Canadian goaltender Geoff Houghton was tested early and made some key saves in the early moments of the match…

In their third match of their California Tour the Canadian men’s national field hockey team were defeated by Dutch club Bloemendaal HC 4-2 Tuesday afternoon in Chula Vista.

Bloemendaal started the game with crisp stick to stick passes and held the edge in possession from the opening whistle.

Several dangerous runs from de Nooijer  and Brouwer put Canada back on their heels.

A run from de Nooijer earned Bloemendaal their first penalty corner in the 6th minute…

The Canadian men’s national field hockey team defeated France 3-2 Sunday afternoon in the second match of their tour in California.

France took it to Canada from the opening whistle. France dominated both possession and entries into the 25. The Canadian defence held up strong allowing a couple entries into their circle and not allowing any bona fide scoring chances.

As the half wore on Canada earned more ball possession and had a few attacks into the French circle…

The match for 9th place was an intense battle between two teams solidly organized defensively. Canada was first on the scoreboard by Brandon BARBER in the 6th minute and took some control of the game but were consistently thwarted by a strong Yaghoub BAHRAMI anchoring the Iranian defence. Devohn TEIXEIRA pushed the score to 2-0 but this triggered an immediate response from Iran and they scored twice in a few minutes to tie the game…

Germany v. Canada: 14-1 (5:1)

After losing to Poland, Germany needed a win to mathematically secure their Semi-Final berth and immediately took control of the proceedings, Christopher ZELLER scoring on their second attack of the match. Canada managed to maintain their defensive structure for a while and to push forward on occasions, with a chance for Nicholas HIGNELL at the end of a swift combination of passes…
