Settling in Barquisimeto

Settling in Barquisimeto – Canadian Women’s Indoor Team

August 7, 2010

The Canadian women’s indoor team is beginning to settle in at their hotel, here in Barquisimeto. With the men’s team arriving late after their bus rides, both Canadian sides are starting to prepare for the beginning of the tournament in two days. The women’s team tested out the court on Friday afternoon, a few hours after arriving. The mentality of "prepare yourself for anything" has always been in the back of our heads and after some crazy bus rides with an open door air conditioning system, team Canada hit the new blue court inside the Doma (the dome)…

Blog: Women’s Indoor Team Day 4

Dear Canada,

We are here today joined by Nicole, Jenna, Ali, and our new arrival Azelia. Our day started with a team breakfast, as usual, and then a workout and stretch with Melanie. During the workout we met a new friend; an Iguana jumped out of nowhere and scared us all. This was our first encounter with Venezuela’s exotic wildlife. We then had lunch, which was followed by the arrival of our goalie and captain Azelia. Zee’s enthusiasm towards the game will be a key part to our success…

Blog: Women’s Indoor Team Day 3

Buenos Dias Canada,

Were back; this time with Kri and Angela.  This morning we played our first exhibition game against Venezuela.  We got off to a slow start, as we were setilling getting used to the floor, but ended the half up by one with a goal scored by Jess Buttinger.  In the second, we picked up our ball speed and potted four more goals scored by Nicole Zaharopoulos, Angela Lancaster, and Ali Lee with two.

After the game, while waiting for the bus, we got to enjoy a pick-up game played by our coaches with several locals (QB was a crowd favorite, and took pictures and signed autographs after the game)…
