Canada started the game well, Richard HILBRETH forcing a penalty-corner on a baseline run in the 6th minute. The option was well executed and found Rob SHORT on the post for the first goal of the game. After this exciting start, the game settled down in an intense tactical midfield battle. Canada had a greater share of ball possession but could not generate any additional scoring opportunity for a while…

Canada won the second game of their series against the Chilean women by a slim margin of one goal. They now lead the series against the South Americans with two victories.

The match started fairly equal for a while. Canada had to concede a penalty-stroke on a Chilean circle penetration, but the shot was weak and easily handled by Azelia LIU in the Canadian goal. She was again called into action soon after on a high shot.

The rest of the period was mostly a midfield battle, both teams offering an excellent display of passes but without generating much danger at either end…

Canadian Men open Chile Series with a hard-fought win

August 1, 2010

By: Yan Huckendubler

The Canadian men opened their 5-game series against Chile with a hard-fought win on UBC Wright Field in Vancouver. It was their first game since the World Cup in March and the group was completely different after the international retirements of Paul WETTLAUFER, Wayne FERNANDES, Scott SANDISON and Connor GRIMES, and the unavailability of Ranjeev DEOL and Gabbar SINGH.
