“The tour to Chile will be a great opportunity to test ourselves in the international arena in 2012 and we are all looking forward to the competition,” says Men’s Junior Head Coach Mathias Ahrens. “The squad has been in a heavy training phase and we have been making significant progress since returning from our pre-Christmas camp in San Diego. In Chile we will be looking to assess our standards under the rigorous pressure of International competition.”
Field Hockey Canada has implemented a change in leadership for the Women’s National Team as the program is moving forward to focus on the 2016 Olympic Games. As of today, Louis Mendonca concludes his role as Head Coach of the Women’s National Team.
FHC is currently working with the Canadian field hockey community to understand this decision and identify and support options going forward in Alberta. The CIS is a key partner within the development and competition structure of field hockey in Canada. While the CWUAA now has three field hockey teams, this does not automatically eliminate field hockey from Canada West or CIS competition.

Current Vikes women’s field hockey coach Lynne Beecroft will be inducted into the player’s category to recognize her outstanding career as a player at the interuniversity and national team level.
This year’s six inductees include Sarah Forbes, of Fredericton, who began her field hockey career at Fredericton High School. During her 16 years on the national team, she competed in 11 international competitions, including three Commonwealth Games and two Pan-American Games, resulting in one silver and three bronze medals.
The 2012 USA-Canada Challenge and camp will run March 30th – April 8th at Rutledge Field in Vancouver, BC. The Junior National Team and U17 Women’s Team will each compete in four matches against the USA’s Junior National Teams.
Canada finished the Hero FIH Road to London tournament on high note, winning against Poland a highly entertaining match (4-3) to grab the bronze medal.
While the men’s match between Canada and France ended in a 1 -1 draw, it was not enough to give Canada a spot in Sunday’s final match.
