Junior Men Defeated by Scotland in First Game of UK TourThe Canadian athletes started the game back on there heals, giving the Scottish team time and space. The Scottish side had several long stints of ball possession penetrating deep into the Canadian zone resulting in several penalty corners. Canada was able to defend all the Scottish penalty corners in the first half. Canada beats Scotland 3-2 in second of 3-series match

To the delight of everyone present,
including the Canadian National Junior Men’s Team, the skies were clear and
sunny, as the second of the three match series began.  

To Canada’s credit, right from the start
they took control of the game. The forwards and the midfielders were able to
generate a number of turnovers, which did result in numerous circle entries.

By the 11th minute Matt Guest
was successful in driving the circle and generating a short corner…

Under the hazy skies of historic Edinburgh
the first of the three test match series began.

Canada started this match with the squad
not having three players available to play. Notwithstanding a shortened roster they
were able to earn a couple of good entries into the Scottish circle, but were
unable to convert.

In the 7th minute Scotland was
able to get the ball into the Canadian circle and generate a short corner…

Kelly Newton Named 2011 Female Athlete of the Year 

University of Maine field hockey standout Kelly Newton (Vancouver, BC) was recently named 2011 Female Athlete of the Year at the recent University of Maine Athletic Awards ceremony.

In her third year of competition, the speedy forward has helped push Maine to one of its best seasons in recent years. Newton led the team in scoring with 45 points this past season, which now puts her as the all time leading scorer with 112 points…

With a good crowd in attendance and in perfect weather conditions, the last of the three match series was played. The team was also pleased by the attendance of Lynne Zeller, Canada’s Honorary Consul, for Ireland. 

The match this time started with a more offensive style with Ireland obtaining a short corner of the foot of Scott Tupper by the fifth minute of play. A good drag flick was delivered by the Irish, but Toni Kindler was well placed and made a good pad save…
