Canadian Team Captains Katie Baker and Ken Pereira were at the famous India Gate for the “presentation of the trophies” in preparation for the FIH Road to London, which begins tomorrow.
Members of the University of Guelph Field Hockey Team are cutting their locks… again. On March 10th, the team’s 2nd Annual “Cut for the Cure” event will take place, with all eyes on beating last year’s total of $6000 raised. The timing coincides with the recent launch of FHC’s Play It Forward program.
The Men represented Canada at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, and they are hungry for another Olympic berth. Team Canada Women are eager to end a 20-year Olympic drought. Both teams have been focused on qualifying for London since the 2010 Commonwealth Games.
The tournament will be broadcast in India (Ten Sports), Singapore (Starhub), Malaysia (Astro Supersport 3) and Europe (Eurosport) in addition to the games that will be offered through live streaming on the FIH website.
Merely five days away from the first matches of the FIH Road to London Olympic Qualification tournament – the Men’s and Women’s National Teams are excited, focused and determined.
“We can’t wait to get on the pitch in India,” says Men’s Team Captain Ken Pereira. “We are ready to go and get that spot at London 2012!”
West Vancouver Men’s A Team has announced, just 72-hours after the Play It Forward program launched, that they have raised over $1000 for local charities. This has triggered the first official match from program sponsors, and shows that charity is alive and well in the field hockey community.
