This is an exciting new dawn for the women’s field hockey pathway in Canada. Since the inception of university field hockey, universities have played a key role in hockey development. University athletes go on to be the sport builders, athletes, officials and supporters of the sport throughout their life.
In this move, Field Hockey Canada has embraced the opportunity for a partnership with U SPORTS and participating universities with the vision to build the national championship into a strong asset for our sport and strong value proposition for athletes graduating high school.
Field Hockey Canada has developed an initial three-year hosting plan to ensure clarity in the planning and stability. Meanwhile, the committee’s work continues with the long-term growth and evolution of the championship the next focus.

Field Hockey Canada is also excited to announce that umpire Alex Miles will be representing Canada at the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup. Alex is fresh off his PAHF appointment at the Indoor Pan American Cup in Calgary, Alberta. Chilliwack’s Michelle McNaughton will also be representing Canada in the technical official booth as a TO. Michelle is married to Canadian goalkeeper, Kiefer McNaughton, making this a special family and community trip for the McNaughtons. Congratulations to Alex and Michelle on their appointments.
Field Hockey Canada and USA Field Hockey Indoor Programs will compete in the annual CanAm Indoor Series on March 16 and 17 at the Philly Sports Center in Newton, Pennsylvania. This year it was decided by both nations that because of the conflict with the Indoor Pan American Cups, the 2024 edition will feature the U-19 boys only and that it will not be a Pan American Hockey Federation (PAHF) sanctioned event.
The CanAm Indoor Series resumed in 2022 after taking a five-year hiatus. This annual event features both the junior and senior teams for both men and women, with the host and location alternating each year between Canada and the United States.
